Judaism 2070: Encouraging protopian storytelling and collective imagination on the future of American Judaism

The Judeofuturism Project is an interactive art exhibition coming to Boston in late 2026, bringing together US Jewish artists to imagine vibrant, pluralistic Jewish life almost half a century from now, exactly 2,000 years after the fall of the Second Temple.

This pilot exhibition asks us to imagine the full texture of Jewish life in 2070 – community, ritual, identity, diaspora, and belonging – through painting, film, sound, performance, and interactive installation.

It is not a prediction. It is an invitation: to see yourself in a future you help shape. The digital and in-person launch will be accompanied by artist talks, community visioning workshops, immersive programming, panels, and performances, supported by education and facilitation guides enabling community learning, adaptability and accessibility.

Art, media and other forms of public storytelling help articulate visions that feel out of reach and invite others to encounter and relate to those possibilities. By creating the resonance and tangible imagery necessary for communities to see themselves in a range of possible Jewish futures, we will utilize creative and interactive modalities to help participants grapple with the range of emotions – fear, grief, loss, hope, inspiration, empowerment – that often accompanies dreaming about and building toward the future.

The word ‘curation’ derives from cura, the care of souls in a spiritual community. This element of the project aspires to that deeper purpose: holding space for the souls and visions of our diverse, pluralistic US Jewish community as we collectively imagine what comes next.

Critically, this methodology is designed for replication and adaptation. Through facilitation toolkits, documentation, and professional development, we hope to enable other organizations to use creative practice for their own future-oriented work, whether through exhibitions, storytelling projects, or other community-engaged formats.
